I can't stand Hodgson although I thought England played Ok yesterday, nothing more. But for me he has got his squad all wrong, taking 5 strikers and only playing one, with another shoehorned into midfield. Absolutely zero goal threat from midfield, Kane taking some of the worst set pieces in football which automatically loses his ariel threat as well.

We will probably still get out of the group due to the bloated nature of the tournament but Russia should have been put away easily, the other two games are potentially a lot more tough.

Hopefully the fans will get us banned before Woy is allowed to cause further embarrassment :-)

Milner. Sterling, Wooney ! Big club and past reputation bias over form every time and it gets us nowhere. The definition of insanity.... doing the same thing and expecting things to change.

Woy needs to tarred and feathered after this tournament.

I agree, sterling should be flown home immediately and handcuffed until the tournament's finished

Re: England v Russia
Both fullbacks were absolutely dominant in the first half, so no need for Sterling. Desperate for a finisher and he puts on the wrong two subs, and why stick with Kane when he was obviously knackered? Roy f$#ked up. Missed opportunity

How is it people keep saying we played well.....we were shite. Especially Sterling. Not the finished article - lot's of toil but just not clinical in front of goal. Kane seemed to be everywhere but where he should be - centre forward.
The corners - well that was a total farce - someone needs to explain that. Starting Vardy with Kane in a dual role would have seen us up 3-0 at the half.

I was thinking the other day when Sir Geoff said we have the best group of players in a long while I was thinking he could be right --but we have probably the worst manager. That cancels it out 100%.
Rooney should have been off at the half too - can't see how he is a 90 minute midfielder.

The stuffy old coot needs to do one. Fucking useless.
What has he ever done? And he definitely has a thing for Milner just has Fatso did for Nolan. Even more fucking baffling and frustrating.

Re: England v Russia
I'd say both France and England had about half a dozen good chances.
England ... Dier's goal, Lallana - a drag wide & a hit right at the keeper, Rooney - volley at the keeper & hit from the edge of the box that the keeper tipped onto the bar
France - Giroud headers created by Payet .... 1 goal & 2 missed the target, Weak shot by Giroud after played in by Payet, Griezmann shot going in deflected wide by defender after pass from Payet, Payet's goal

funny how everyone was worried about a terrorist attack in Marseille and one happens in Orlando. 20 people dead.

Did you see the France game? They struggled. Payet got them out of a hole there. England were dominant, excellent in the first half particularly. Not saying France won't do well as they have the better individual players, but England the better performers so far. Plenty of good teams yet to play of course.

Who looked better in their opening game - England or France? If anyone says France I don't believe they saw the games.

Re: England v Russia
The commentator said that Russia were without 4 players who would be starters due to injury and with players like Sterling and Lallana who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo as part of our front three then we're always going to struggle to put better teams away

Re: England v Russia
Wasn't the worst I've seen us play but if you don't take chances at this level then you'll struggle, particularly against better sides. Picking out of form players doesn't help.

Re: England v Russia
I thought England played well going forward, just weren't clinical enough.

But that defence is a disaster, Russia must have the slowest attack in the tournament yet the few times they did attack they caused panic for the English.

>>> look at the last few tournaments, we've stuggled against mediocre opposition and rarely seem to score goals as freely as we once did.

I suppose that's what I'm detecting - a desire to fit the result to an existing England narrative rather than judge the performance on its merits.

Alex, fair enough but look at the last few tournaments, we've stuggled against mediocre opposition and rarely seem to score goals as freely as we once did.
